Affiliate Disclosure
Last updated June 12, 2026
This page explains how obxcannabis.com makes money. We believe in full transparency. If a shop or product is listed on this site, here's exactly what our relationship is — or isn't — with them.
How we earn revenue
obxcannabis.com is a free resource. We don't put products behind a paywall, we don't charge for guides, and we don't sell user data. Our revenue comes from a small set of clearly-labeled sources:
1. Affiliate links (when present)
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission — typically 3–15% — at no cost to you. The price is the same whether you use our link or go directly.
Affiliate links are always marked. We use one of these patterns:
- The link text explicitly says "(affiliate link)" or "(paid link)"
- The link has a small ★ icon next to it
- The page has a visible affiliate banner at the top
As of June 2026, OBX Cannabis does not have any active affiliate relationships. When we add them, this page will list each one with the network, the merchant, and the commission rate.
2. Display advertising (planned)
We may add display ads in the future, served via Google AdSense or a privacy-respecting alternative (e.g. Carbon Ads, EthicalAds). When we do:
- Ads will always be clearly separated from editorial content with a label like "Advertisement"
- We will never run paid-for "sponsored" content disguised as reviews or guides
- We will never run ads from a network that violates our visitors' privacy (we currently use a consent banner and don't ship ads to EU/UK users without opt-in)
3. Sponsored content (rare, transparent)
If a brand pays us to write a specific article, that article will be:
- Labeled with "Sponsored" at the top — large, can't miss
- Tagged in the page metadata so search engines can ignore it
- Edited by us, not the sponsor — we don't publish ghost-written content
As of June 2026, no sponsored content has been published on obxcannabis.com.
What we never do
- We don't take payment for shop listings. Every shop in our directory is there because we visited, bought, and formed an independent opinion. Period.
- We don't change ratings or reviews based on affiliate status. A shop we link to with an affiliate link gets the same honest review as a shop we don't.
- We don't hide sponsored content. See above — when it happens, it's labeled loudly.
- We don't sell user data. Our full data practices are in our privacy policy.
- We don't auto-redirect affiliate links. No "skim" redirects that skim commissions without the user knowing.
Our editorial standards
OBX Cannabis is written for two audiences: Outer Banks residents and the millions of tourists who visit every year. Our editorial rules:
- Compliance first. Every product we recommend is legal to possess and use in North Carolina as of the date of publication. We cite the specific law or regulation in our NC hemp laws guide.
- No health claims without citation. We don't say CBD cures anxiety, gummies will help you sleep, or THCA fixes pain — unless there's a peer-reviewed study or major medical body backing it.
- Honest about what we don't know. If a product is new and we don't have enough data, we say so.
- Disclose the conflicts of interest above. This page exists.
How to verify
We try to make everything verifiable. If a claim doesn't have a citation and you want one, email us at [email protected] — we'll dig up the source.
