The Outer Banks is a string of towns along a 200-mile barrier island. Each has its own scene. Pick yours.

• Kill Devil Hills

  The biggest concentration of shops. MP 9 area.

• Nags Head

  Beach Road corridor. Mostly seasonal traffic.

• Kitty Hawk

  Smaller, north of KDH. Family-friendly strip.

• Hatteras

  Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras Village.

• Manteo

  On Roanoke Island. The only mainland OBX town with shops.

• Corolla

  Northernmost. 4x4 beach. One shop, limited hours.
