The Salvo cannabis scene

Salvo is the southernmost of the three Tri-Villages on south Hatteras Island (Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo). It's the quietest of the three — a thin strip of Highway 12, sound-side neighborhoods, and some of the best kiteboarding on the East Coast. Population: a few hundred year-round, swelling to a few thousand in peak summer.

The cannabis market is the smallest of any OBX town we cover: zero shops. The two closest options are both 5 minutes away (Waves to the north, Rodanthe further north). Buying strategy

For visitors to Salvo:

1. Stock up before you arrive. If you're driving down from KDH or coming in from out of state, hit a KDH or Buxton shop before crossing into the Tri-Villages. The selection is much wider and the prices are lower.
2. Use delivery. Multiple OBX delivery services reach Salvo. For a mid-week top-off, this is often easier than driving 25-80 minutes each way.
3. Know the closest in-person options. Waves Hemp Outpost (5 min north) and Rodanthe Hemp Co. (5 min north, other direction) are both solid for re-supply. Buxton (25 min) and Avon (20 min) have wider selection.
4. Cash backup. Delivery drivers sometimes can't run cards in this part of the island. Have cash ready, even if you usually pay digitally.

Red flags in Salvo area shops

The Tri-Villages are small enough that bad shops get talked about fast. If you're driving to Waves or Rodanthe and something feels off (no COAs, no rotation, a budtender who can't name the growers), the 20-30 minute drive to Buxton or Avon gives you better alternatives. Watch for the standard hemp-shop red flags: untested product, no COA on file, or pricing wildly above the KDH market.
